Groundworks & Proper On-site Safety

PPE – Whatever the task lying ahead of our groundworks team, we insist on identifying and using the correct PPE at all times. This may include safety gloves, steel capped work boots, hardhats, ventilation masks and high-vis jackets – but there are more niche and technical aspects of PPE that may also come into play. We also insist any contractors we may be working side-by-side with on a Sevenoaks project do the same.

Working at Height – In some situations, e.g certain demolition, steel work erection and brickwork activity, we may need to implement a scaffold to enable work at height. The scaffold has to be made bespoke to the job, dealing with challenges presented by the site such as overhanging utility cables, uneven ground and architectural weaknesses of any given building. It must have an appropriate maximum loading weight to accommodate our team, their tools and any required materials. We then ensure that during the course of the groundworks, we incorporate appropriate safety measures such as barriers to prevent falls, and a strict approach to not leaving loose tools or materials on the scaffold – the cause of many an accident in the Sevenoaks area over the years. Scaffolds will also be regularly inspected to ensure they remain up to the task.

Tools & Machinery – Most groundworks are simply impossible without the use of appropriate tools and machinery; other tasks like demolition can be handled, but are often very dangerous when approached in an amateurish “DIY” way without the right machinery. By having well-maintained plant that our groundworks team have been trained to use, we drastically reduce the chance of anything going awry while working on a project in Sevenoaks.
